Challenge: Need for growth
A successful company known for aggregating consumer goods sales data realised that simply selling data wasn't enough. They wanted to develop their own data products like demand forecasting tools, pricing optimisation models, and custom analytics to improve their offerings and stay competitive.
Diagnostic: Defining the scope of work
The company had great specialists who could handle APIs and data storage but nobody for the data science that product development requires. So they called ASAO DS to help create a data science department from scratch.
The first step involved a detailed assessment of the company's product ambitions and the specific expertise required. We conducted extensive interviews and analyses to identify the precise number and type of specialists needed to bring these products to life.
Solution: Establishing a Data Science division
Recruitment strategy:
Job descriptions: We created detailed job descriptions that highlighted the necessary technical skills and other relevant qualities.
Recruiter training: We coached the company's recruiters on how to spot the right candidates and assess their fit during screening interview.
Interview support: ASAO DS led all the technical interviews, and for culture fit interviews, we were also joined by the Company's founder.
Leadership hiring: We also led the hiring process of a competent Head of Data Science. This wasn’t only about finding someone who knew their stuff technically; the Company needed a leader to act as a conduit between tech and business, managing complex projects.
Building the team:
Recruitment: With the new leader in place, we helped pick a team of data scientists and analysts who were not only skilled in data manipulation and model building but also have business-aimed approach and fit well into the company's dynamic.
Onboarding: We designed and fulfilled an onboarding process to prepare the new team for the Company's culture and systems.
Results
With the new data science team in place, the company isn’t just collecting data anymore. They've started rolling out smart, custom data products that improve their market position.
